State Gene Conservation Tasks

Since 2009, the Ministry of Agriculture has supported institutions, organizations, and individuals involved in state gene conservation tasks every year. This support is currently provided through the "Nature Conservation Tasks" chapter-specific budget item, under the professional framework of the "Support for State Gene Conservation Tasks" (previously the "Support for State Gene Conservation Tasks" chapter-specific budget item). The supported partners include gene conservation institutions, research institutes, higher education institutions, as well as non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals.

The main goal of the support is the conservation, maintenance, and development of the plant genetic resources for agricultural, horticultural, and forestry use, as well as the conservation and preservation of genetic resources of critically endangered or severely threatened long-established livestock breeds and protected indigenous agricultural animal breeds.

For the period starting from 2019, the Government, through the 1049/2018 (II. 20.) Government Resolution, has allocated significant additional tasks and resources to ensure the protection and continuous development of important resources, which are also of national security significance. Within this framework, the Government decided to significantly increase the available budget for State gene conservation tasks.

Since 2019, more than 2 billion HUF has been allocated for supporting gene conservation tasks and key model programs under the framework of state gene conservation tasks.

In 2022, under the "Support for State Gene Conservation Tasks" call for proposals, non-budgetary legal entities and organizations without legal personality (economic companies, foundation-maintained higher education institutions, civil organizations), as well as individuals (private persons, sole proprietors) could receive support for the conservation, maintenance, and development of the plant genetic resources for agricultural and horticultural use, approximately 140 million HUF in total.
