World Migratory Bird Day 2019 Sparks Major Support
Under the theme “Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution” the 2019 World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) campaign was a record-breaking celebration and a great success. As the main organizers behind WMBD, the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) Secretariats, with their partner Environment for the Americas (EFTA), are pleased to share a few of the many highlights of the campaign.
Lebanon – Party No 128
The Lebanese Republic has acceded to the Convention, bringing the total number of Parties to 128. Lebanon is already a Party to a number of instruments under the Convention – the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean and Contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS), and is a signatory to the Raptors Memorandum of Understanding.

Acting CMS Executive Secretary Enters on Duty
Ms. Amy Fraenkel has been appointed as the Acting Executive Secretary of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), as of 13 May 2019. She brings to CMS a wealth of experience, both as Party negotiator and as a senior United Nations official.
