The nature that surrounds us, sustains us. Ensuring that it can continue to do so for future generations is a trust bestowed on us all.

Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, CBD Acting Executive Secretary, welcomes announcement that biodiversity will be theme of the next year's World Environment Day: "We are delighted to see that biodiversity will be the focus of World Environment Day 2020. The 2020 WED theme is especially opportune and will help educate the public and mobilize political will around one of the most critical issues of our time. UNEP's decision will help raise awareness of actions needed in the "super year" for biodiversity.

Agriculture and biodiversity have been inextricably linked for as long as we humans have been producing our own food. As the source of all variety in our crops and livestock, biodiversity is the very foundation of agriculture.
