Nominations are now invited for The MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2020. The call for nominations remains open until 30 March 2020.

The Secretariats of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme and Jackson Wild announced today that they are teaming up to organize an international film showcase highlighting wildlife as an important component of biological diversity and how its conservation and sustainable use will help reduce the risk of unprecedented extinctions from overexploitation.

Over the next five days, the Convention on Biological Diversity's (CBD) body on science will meet to lay the groundwork for negotiations to prepare the next year's UN Biodiversity Conference in Kunming, China and achieve an ambitious and effective post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

Delegates to the eleventh meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions (11WG8J) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) agreed on a set of recommendations for consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Review of Implementation.

The European Business and Nature Summit (EBNS) took place in Madrid, Spain over the span of two days to help strengthen the role that businesses play in supporting nature conservation and its sustainable use.

In the "Beijing Call for Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change", French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping on 6 November reaffirmed their commitments to enhance international cooperation on climate change and biodiversity. They will work together with other political leaders to prompt a globally effective response to climate change and biodiversity loss and achieve a robust post-2020 global biodiversity framework, to be adopted next year at the UN Biodiversity Conference in China, in the frame of the Sharm El-Sheikh to Kunming Action Agenda for Nature and People.

This year's World Cities Day theme, "Changing the world: innovations and better life for future generations", focuses on how urban governance can be used to achieve sustainable development.
