Montreal/Kolkata, 13 February 2015 - A ground-breaking report on biodiversity and health, launched today at the 14th World Congress on Public Health, in Kolkata, India, shows the significant contribution of biodiversity and ecosystem services to better human health.
The GBIF Secretariat is pleased to announce that the 2015 call for proposals of the GBIF Capacity Enhancement Support Programme is now open. This programme provides co-funding to GBIF Participants in support of international collaborative projects targeting capacity enhancement and exchange. The 2015 call for proposals document is available. Please note that the submission of proposals is a two-stage process and the first deadline (for short concept notes) is 3 March 2015.

Wetlands are among our most valuable ecosystems. The values of benefits provided by wetlands, per unit area, have been consistently shown to be orders of magnitude higher than for other ecosystems, with the major benefit delivered through improved water security.

Today, the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea presented United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with three major outcomes of the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on the role of biodiversity for sustainable development, for transmittal to the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
