Spotlight on the Hawksbill Turtle: New Conservation Status Assessment Now Available

On this year’s World Sea Turtle Day, the CMS Secretariat is pleased to launch a new report on the Hawksbill Turtle.  The Assessment of the Conservation Status of the Hawksbill Turtle in the Western Pacific Ocean Region presents a synopsis of what is known about hawksbill turtles in the Western Pacific Ocean, including knowledge of nesting and foraging populations and legislative and protection measures across signatory states.

New UN Report on Reducing Major Impacts of Noise Pollution on Marine Wildlife

On World Oceans Day, the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) released a landmark report aimed at addressing a major threat to marine species: noise pollution. Noise pollution is known to cause significant disturbance to marine wildlife, including migratory species protected under CMS such as whales and dolphins (and their prey). Such impacts can result in adverse changes to entire marine ecosystems.

“From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity” is this year’s theme for the International Day for Biological Diversity.  The theme reminds us of the incredible achievement this past December, when the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework – the GBF - was adopted.  At the same time, the theme underlines the need for countries to move quickly to take the actions necessary to achieve the GBF's ambitious goals and targets.
