Today the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project unveiled its new, interactive and informative website that includes information about the project, resources for dugong and seagrass conservation, as well as information for project partners. The website was launched at an event hosted by Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, where the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund (the MBZ Fund) publicly announced the GEF grant for the project.

The United Nations has proclaimed 22 May as the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB), commemorating the adoption of the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 22 May in 1992.

World Fish Migration Day is being celebrated on 21 May for the second time, with the theme “Connecting Fish, Rivers and People”. Over 1,500 organizations are involved and events are taking place in more than 400 different localities around the world to mark the day and to highlight the importance of healthy rivers.
